I took a sign language class at Chabot College. From my instructor, Libby, I found out about a volunteer opportunity at Rose Resnick Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. I volunteered for the Lighthouse for about 2 years. They have a wonderful campsite in Napa, California, called Enchanted Hills. The second time I went there I made sure to take my camera with me.
"The Thinker" is a burnt tree stump. I don't know whether it was carved out after a fire or if it just happened to be that way. I got the idea of taking this picture from a friend of mine, Susan. She a professional photographer and her interest at the time (it still may be) was looking for familiar images in trees. I think a lot of art is that way. You get inspired by other peoples' work and you try to imitate it somehow but give it a distinction at the same time to differentiate between the two artists. My difference is that this is a dead tree. |
