HALO 3.

***Spoiler Alert***

I just finished playing the single player campaign of Halo 3 and here you will find my impressions of the game. Well, it is mostly about how the game ends so be advised that there spoilers ahead. If you continue reading, the ending will be spoiled for you.

***Spoiler Alert***

Everybody has been saying how great a game Halo 3 is, and I love it as well. I have waited a long time to play this game and could not wait to see how the story ends. The graphics are amazing as is the gameplay and the story has a satisfying ending… well, ok, maybe not that satisfying for me.

You see, the story ends with Master Chief and Cortana on board a wrecked UNSC spaceship. Master Chief ends up in a stasis chamber and his last words to Cortana are, “Wake me if you need me.” Cortana, of course, drops a locater beacon but admits that it may be a long time before anyone finds them. Now, unless Bungie has a story for what happens next, I was a little disappointed. If Master Chief had died (in a way that would be fitting for such a grand character), I would not have been as disappointed; after all, he has been through a LOT!

My other gripe with the ending is the fact that the ship is SPLIT IN HALF! How long are the systems for life support and computers that keep Cortana alive going to function?

Knowing the great force that is Bungie, I sure hope they have something planned for Master Chief, which would make sense. Halo 3 brought in over $200 million (worldwide) in sales on its FIRST day! It would be foolish for any business to retire such a product moving character as Master Chief. But, it is better to go off on a high note than to have the franchise decay to a, more of the same, tenth iteration. Unfortunately, the way Halo 3 ended is no high note.

Halo 3’s ending gives me hope assurance that there will be another game starring Master Chief and Cortana. I fear that it may not live up to what we have to come to expect from sharing their adventures in the Halo series.

I guess the above will explain why I loved Halo 2, even its ending. That game ended in the middle of a (huge) bang and promised that there would be another Halo game.
